Hello, have you looked at the sequencing and navigation book (Section: SN-3-34 and Section 4.6 SN-4-34 -- Overall Rollup Process)? Most of this is explained in there. If some of the verbiage is confusing, try creating some samples and then test them in the ADL Sample Run-time environment.
In addition, I have found the Sequencing and Navigation Guide from Xerceo to be very helpful:
