Has anyone have any further information on the status of the SCORM/S100d memorandum of agreement to bring the two standars into alignment?

George,
The Navy recently hosted a meeting to discuss SCORM + S1000D challenges. I believe there is also an upcoming ADL Performance Fest: http://www.adlnet.org/news/articles/350.cfm
Perhaps a C2S member with more info will also respond... I'll see if I can get in touch with my S1000D point of contact to follow up.
Regards,
J Haag

The MOA, signed almost two years ago at the S1000D Clearwater conference, cites a framework for cooperation between ADL, the Aerospace and Defense Industries Association of Europe (ASD) and the S1-based Technical Publications Specification Maintenance Group (TPSMG). The intention of the MOA is not necessarily to align S1000D and SCORM, as if to blend them into one document, but to coordinate activities for an integrated approach to developing and distributing tech and training data. To this date, there has been no discussion about unifying the specifications, nor do I anticipate that happening.
Now two years after the MOA was signed, several projects and prototypes have been launched that have been a direct result of the MOA. At the Joint Technology Lab at ADL Alexandria, Tim tate has launched the "test bed". This is a project that uses various cots products and program data to experiment at creating "use cases". Use cases are data products used for a specific purpose. Some use cases will be games, some hand-helds, some true SCORM courseware and IETMs. The exercise is to determine how well tech data in S1 data modules might be processed in non-traditional ways, including into SCOs.
In other prototype work, I am working on the creation of a "redundancy analysis" model. Redundancy analysis is my way of explaining legacy data conversion or data origination when you attempt to account for reusable data across tech manual configurations and training courses. Current TM conversion processes work on a "one-TM-in, one-electronic-file out model". From an MOA perspective, the conversion must purposefully look for reuse opportunities in program data. The premise is that technical training data can be named, identified and stored in S1000D data modules - without impeding instructional design. I am using AEGIS and LCS data to prove out the models and that the tech data can be literally processed into SCOs.
The second protype project I have going is integrating SCORM processing into NAVSEA's Standard Publishing System. This system supports S1000D processing, and my intention is to make it evolve into a "dual-purpose" environment. This environment will manage and produce all the related tech and training content based in S1000D for a program. It will maximize production and logistics efficiency.
