The Learning Education Training Systems Interoperability (LETSI) federation has taken on the task of developing the next generation of SCORM. As part of this initiative, LETSI is soliciting White Papers to all stakeholders interested in shaping the future direction of SCORM and Learning, Education and Training Systems Interoperability.
White papers are being solicited to help shape the future direction of the SCORM. For more information, visit: http://www.lesti.org/SCORM2/
The ADL Initiative will continue to support the SCORM community both in and outside the Department of Defense as it pursues international standardization of SCORM through the Core SCORM concept. Core SCORM refers to the key foundational pieces of SCORM (content packaging and the run-time environment). “Given the demands for harmonization across international technical learning standards, Core SCORM will be based on “de jure” open standards that are unencumbered to allow for market growth and global adoption and implementation.” -- Paul Jesukiewicz, Deputy Director, Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative.
SCORM 2.0 will be based on two components: 1) Core SCORM and 2) Extensions that support broadly applicable functionality but which may be less mature. SCORM 2.0 will follow a modular design that allows users to further extend SCORM 2.0 with functionality and innovations that are important for specific communities of practice. LETSI will play the leadership role in publicizing such extensions and will consider them for future inclusion in SCORM 2.0.
The federation for Learning Education Training Systems Interoperability (LETSI) is sponsored by a dozen organizations with commitments to SCORM and to other specifications and learning technology standards. LETSI is organized under the IEEE-ISTO Industry Standards and Technology Organization (www.ieee-isto.org). For more information about LETSI, please visit: http://www.letsi.org.
